First and foremost, let me offer a disclosure that I am in NO way whatsoever related to con staff or panel staff. I'm merely providing a topic for potentially interested parties.
That aside...
Hullo! Some of y'all may remember me from last year's RMFC. T'was my first con and it was absolutely wonderful. One area that I feel we all may be able to contribute to, however, is the game room.
I would be more than willing to pony up a flash drive with tons of Stepmania songs and simfiles, however, I will not be able to transport my entire computer rig, nor do I have a dance pad. I heard talk at the closing last year that it may be a possibility in the future to have such a setup and, needless to say, I'd be pumped for it.
In addition to video games, tabletop games would be more than welcome. I may be able to convince my ride to pack Dominion, a deckbuilding game, and one of its expansions. Quick, easy to pick up and play, card or dice-based games would probably be enjoyable. Zombie Dice is another one that comes to mind.
Anyone else have ideas as to what could be potentially enjoyable, video or tabletop-wise? Anyone have any ideas as to what's going to be available in terms of time, systems, and televisions?
Discuss, and I look forward to seein' y'all in August!
I talked to a friend who owns a machine about lending it to the convention, but:
1. He would want compensation for the U-haul rental and gas
2. There wasn't room for the machine, last I heard. If you put it in the game room, there would be big issues of noise as well...
It was a shame. I was happy he was willing to consider it. He was even willing to put Mungyodance 3 on the machine, which would have been pretty cool.
Generic stepmania + hardpad setups are just asking for trouble, and anything else would be incompetent. If you're going to have an entire convention full of people playing a dance game, you need an actual machine, nothing else is designed to take that kind of punishment.
Well, we've got a pretty decent gaming group over here. I'm sure I can convince one of the furs, who has a respectable boardgaming library, to bring a few favorites, like Saboteur, Chrononauts, 7 Wonders, Shadow Hunters, etc etc. I will probably bring along BattleCON and maaaybe Arkham Horror. I can't believe we got a game of that going last time.
Also thinking about bringing along my Wii and some gamecube controllers. There are rumblings of trying to get a Smash Bros series going, and I'd love to contribute to that as well.

as of last night, my apartmentmate might be able to contribute "Cards Against Humanity" ;D
We're definitely planning a game room this year. Sorry I haven't gotten into the conversation until now, my account for the forums was messed up. Also I wanted to make sure that I started talking about this closer to the con so I could come with a concrete plan and hopefully get better commitments from potential volunteers.
The people running the game room this year is (again) me (Alynna), Kupok and Frynge. Also it seems we'll have a 4th fur, Narobi.
I'm looking for volunteers for the game room at this point. Please send emails to alynna@kitsunet.net. Planning on running for 8 hours a day, Friday and Saturday, then 6 hours on Sunday, and each day will have 4 shifts on Friday and Saturday, and 3 on Sunday:
| Friday | 6pm-8pm | 8pm-10pm | 10pm-12am | 12am-2am |
| Saturday | 6pm-8pm | 8pm-10pm | 10pm-12am | 12am-2am |
| Sunday | 6pm-8pm | 8pm-10pm | 10pm-12am |
If you email, please note the hours that you would want to volunteer. And please only email if you're truly prepared to commit to that time. Last year many our volunteers did not show up to do anything.
If you want to volunteer equipment, or to run games, please let me know that as well. We will have at least one operating projector, possibly two. If you want to run a game during those times, also email and let me know. You will get as many blocks as you need for it, however remember that the expected running times of the game room will be 6pm-2am Fri/Sat and 6pm to Midnight Sunday. At that point we have to close.
We are planning at least four tournaments during the game room time, 2 Super Smash Bros tournament, one Touhou tournament, and one Pokemon Battle Revolution tournament. The times are still to be determined, but most likely between 8pm and 10pm.
We also need people to watch the doors. I would like to have at least one person for each shift to watch the doors. Within the rules of the con I will try to keep the volunteers running the game room fed and hydrated during their shift.
Whether you come to the gameroom as a patron or volunteer, we'll have a good time. I learned a few things logistically from last years game room and I'm planning on making it even better.
